Victim of Shooting Files $80 Million Lawsuit Against Remy Ma
On Friday, December 21, Makeda Barnes-Joseph's attorney Lauren P. Raysor filed an $80 million lawsuit against rapper Remy Ma, as well as Universal Music Group and Sure Shot Recordings alleging they encouraged Remy Ma to engage in violent behavior as part of her image. "Only by pursuing those who we believe are legally responsible for this vicious and callous act of violence, can we hope to put an end to this senseless cycle of violence that is glorified by Hip-Hop marketing," said Lauren P. Raysor.
Unable to work and forced to make weekly visits to the hospital, Makeda Barnes-Joseph's life is very different since she was shot twice in the abdomen on July 14 in an unprovoked act of violence that led to the arrest of the rapper known as Remy Ma. In addition to the three surgeries at St. Vincent's Hospital to repair injuries suffered in the shooting, Barnes-Joseph has endured attacks on her character by members of the media and attorney Ivan Fisher, who represents Remy Ma.
"Makeda Barnes-Joseph is clearly the victim, yet Mr. Fisher and Remy Ma continue to make statements that they know will prejudice the jury pool. He has tried to portray Remy Ma as the victim, which is laughable," Lauren P. Raysor said.
"Makeda has struggled to regain her life after being shot. I am saddened by the fact that Fisher has called my client and myself opportunists, when Makeda is only fighting for justice through the courts. She is clearly hurt by these personal attacks, which result in greater injury to her reputation." says Raysor.
Makeda Barnes-Joseph thanks those who have supported her during her ordeal, especially her family and wishes all a Happy New Year.
