Lauren P. Raysor, Esq. Comments on Fourth Anniversary of Shooting
by Remy Ma during Signing of
“Living The Wealthy Life”

Attorney and author Lauren P. Raysor, Esq. will be able to speak on the upcoming fourth anniversary of the shooting by rap and hip-hop star Remy Ma during her signing of the book, “Living the Wealthy Life” at the Hue-Man Bookstore and Café.

On July 14, 2007, Remy Smith, also known as Remy Ma, shot Makeda Barnes-Joseph twice in the abdomen outside a nightclub. A grand jury indicted Ms. Ma with several counts, including first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. In March 2008, a New York County jury found her guilty. Ms. Raysor, who represented Ms. Barnes-Joseph during the trial, implored record companies to impose a morality clause on rap and hip-hop artists who sign onto their labels so that, in the event the artist is involved in any criminal behavior, they would be dismissed from their label.

As an attorney, author, and motivational speaker, Ms. Raysor had served as Assistant Attorney General in charge of The Bronx and Upper Manhattan under then-New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and as Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan. She has written “Living the Wealthy Life” to provide a guide and principles on how people can achieve success while being ethical, having common sense, and living a life that is meaningful, rewarding and helpful to others.

Ms. Raysor said she felt compelled to write the book after the Remy Ma trial and learning of the senseless acts of violence by rap and hip-hop artists and the fans who emulate them. Her blunt approach and personal examples in her book provide a form of leadership that is much needed in today’s world where a moral compass seems to be lacking for today’s younger generation.
