Family of Makeda Barnes-Joseph to Speak with Gun Violence
Support Group "Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E."
Woman Allegedly Shot by Rap Music Star Remy Ma
Media Event: 1 p.m., Monday, July 30
The family of Makeda Barnes-Joseph, the woman allegedly shot twice in the
abdomen by the rapper known as Remy Ma on July 14, will
be meeting with members of the gun violence support group Harlem Mothers
S.A.V.E. at 1 p.m. on Monday,
July 30 at the offices of Lauren Raysor, Esq., legal counsel for the
victim’s
family. The office is located at 11 Penn Plaza Suite 500 in Manhattan
(7th Avenue between West 31st and West 32nd). The Barnes-Joseph family will
be available to speak with members of the media. Ms. Barnes-Joseph remains
hospitalized.
"This has been a difficult and stressful time for the Barnes-Joseph
family. Makeda has had two surgeries since July 14," Lauren Raysor,
legal counsel to the Barnes-Joseph family, said. "We are grateful that
Jackie Rowe-Adams from Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E. will meet with the family."
Ms. Rowe-Adams and Jean Corbett-Parker founded Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E.
last November to cope with the loss of their children to gun violence.
Now they are helping
other families, like that of Ms. Barnes-Joseph, whose lives have been
altered by gun violence.
The shooting is under investigation by the
New York City Police Department and any prosecution will be handled
by the Manhattan District Attorney’s
office.
